An understanding of how deep change really comes about

Frey Coaching was founded by Tamás Frey, psychologist, certified psychotherapist and coach. His expertise blends a thorough understanding of how we as individuals change, with hands-on experience in a highly competitive business landscape.

What is our coaching process?

We base our work on a profound understanding of what it takes for humans to change and realise their dreams. It is inspired by our own psychotherapy practice, as well as a range of coaching and therapy practices and schools of thought that emphasize implicit and unconscious processes (eg. psychodynamic, experiential, existential practices).

Depending on a client’s goals, an important part of our work can involve helping to integrate experiences from altered states of consciousness - such as night-time dreams, experiences from meditation, breathwork or psychedelics.

Our coaching typically involves the following 3 stages:

Diagnosing: bringing to light your main concerns, root causes and needs

Designing: unleashing imagination and creativity, loosening emotional blocks

Doing: planning, implementing, playing out

These 3 core elements of the coaching process are not necessarily linear - we often circle closer and closer to your end goal by working through this process iteratively.

There are lots of coaches to chose from. What might make us a good fit for each other?

Coaching is a highly personal undertaking - a lot depends on the right expectations and the chemistry between coachee and coach. Some of the values that people usually appreciate when working with us:

  • empathy • openness • no judgment • diverse transcultural experience • going deep • dreamwork • integration of experiences in altered states of consciousness • combined psychotherapy and business experience • easy to book

From the founder

Tamás Frey (MA | FOT) psychologist, certified psychotherapist and coach, focusing oriented therapist

My practice has been shaped as much by my training and studies as my business experience and my personal story. Throughout my clinical psychology training, I aimed for a profound understanding of a particular approach, while refraining from dogmatism or tribalism.

I have completed 5 years of training in old-school Freudian and Lacanian psychoanalysis (MA at Université Paris 7); an FOT certification and 2 years of training in Gendlin’s focusing-oriented practice, a client-centred approach that works with the felt sense - including dreamwork; and 1 year of training in existential coaching. I have been working in mental health, under supervision, since 2012, and I have been a psychologist and certified psychotherapist since 2017. I was born and grew up in socialist Hungary, living through the radical social-economic transformation of my country as a young adult: I had to learn early on that transition is a normal part of life. I have lived, worked and travelled in various countries and continents, mainly based in France since 2011.

These are some of the people whom I have learnt from and who have shaped my practice:

Dr Leslie Ellis - working with dreams as a focusing-oriented practitioner Serge Prengel - how to bring creativity into working with the felt sense Árpi Süle - practicing as a client-centred therapist Yannick Jacob - existential coaching Dr Daniel Delanoë - transcultural psychiatry, bringing together anthropology and psychoanalytic insight Dr Bernard Pachoud - phenomenology in psychiatric practice Dr Laura Neulat & Christian Sornon - the benefits of meditation Ádám Nádasdy - the appreciation of language, linguistics and thinking scientifically my Freudian and Lacanian professors at the Université Paris 7 - an often outdated approach to the exploration of the psyche that nonetheless has a lot to teach today’s practitioners.

My degrees and certifications:

Certified psychotherapist in France Psychology MA at Université Paris 7 (today Université Paris Cité) Certified focusing-oriented therapist (certification by the International Focusing Institute, NY) • Coaching training and supervision with Yannick Jacob English Studies, MA, University ELTE Budapest • PGD Public Relations, Budapest Metropolitan University
